Maga Active needed to build an automated assembly machine for irrigation dripper insertion and drilling systems that offered higher throughput and greater precision than an existing fixed-pitch indexing-table solution, while taking up significantly less floor space.
Maga Active deployed Rockwell Automation iTRAK Independent Cart Technology with 10 work stations, allowing movers to operate independently at up to 5 m/s with 0.5 mm accuracy. A CompactLogix PAC, PanelView Plus 7 HMI, Kinetix 350 servo drives, and TL-Series electric cylinders formed the Integrated Architecture.
Throughput reached 180–205 pieces per minute compared to the slower incumbent system. The machine footprint was reduced by 40% compared to the replaced system. Accuracy was maintained at 0.5 mm even at maximum speed, with the platform set as the basis for future Maga Active machines targeting 220–230 ppm.
• Independent cart technology eliminates the single-point bottleneck of fixed-pitch indexing systems • Compact servo-based solutions can simultaneously improve throughput and reduce floor space • Integrated vision systems and servo assembly enable pass/fail quality inspection within the same machine footprint
