A Korean zinc and lead recycler using Waelz Kiln technology needed to enhance efficiency with an integrated intelligent motor control system, improve network communication, and reduce costs by using fewer devices to synchronize data between machines.
The recycler deployed E300 electronic overload relays with real-time diagnostics, SMC Flex soft starters, ControlLogix-based intelligent motor control on EtherNet/IP, and FactoryTalk View for remote monitoring and control of motor and power parameters.
Costs were reduced through simpler network structure. Enhanced power monitoring and diagnostic capabilities were achieved. Real-time motor diagnostic information proactively indicates problems so operators can efficiently troubleshoot before failures occur.
• Intelligent motor control on EtherNet/IP eliminates dedicated communication hardware while improving diagnostic depth • Real-time diagnostics transform reactive maintenance into proactive intervention in recycling operations • Simplified network architecture reduces both capital and ongoing maintenance costs
