Repsol needed to replace existing safety instrumented systems (SIS) at two Ecuadorian production facilities to comply with new internal safety standards. Aging equipment increased downtime risk and limited visibility into system performance.

Rockwell Automation deployed a new SIS solution providing SIL 2 application compliance with easy integration into the existing installed base. The solution included system alarm and event capabilities for improved visibility into performance and downtime issues.

The SIS complies with Repsol's new corporate safety standard and reduces risk of downtime from aging equipment. Spare-parts inventory was reduced by standardizing on one platform. Improved system visibility helps operators more quickly troubleshoot and predict failures, with capability to meet higher SIL requirements.
