Hanggi GmbH manufactures sealing rings for automotive fuel injection pumps where fuel pressure exceeds 2,000 bar (29,000 PSI). These sealing rings require surface inspection for scratches and contamination plus dimensional checks of inside and outside diameters, all at high speed and with thousandths-of-a-millimeter precision.
Working with iTECH Engineering AG, Hanggi deployed the iNSPEC 50 inspection system using Cognex VisionPro software. The system uses three camera control stations: telecentric optics for geometric accuracy, multi-stage lighting (dark-field, dome, and coaxial) for surface inspection of top and outer sides, and a bottom-view station. Parts are tracked via stepping motor synchronization on a glass ring transport system.
The system achieved a testing speed of 2 parts per second (7,200 parts/hour) with precision of 0.004mm. VisionPro eliminated the need for laborious preprocessing of image data by focusing only on critical features. Application development for new product requirements was expedited. Flawless sealing rings are automatically sorted into batches of 2,000.
